I've posted several pictures of some hairstyles and make up below for a few reasons. First, so many people come to me with no idea what they want for their hairstyle. Actually, most people do. I always create something that I feel will best suit their looks but what I REALLY love is to create something that best suits their looks AND personality. That's hard to do when first meeting someone. So, this way if I post pics you can actually say "that's my style" or "I love that!" That's what I want to hear! ") So, the other reason is since some of you may be meeting me for the first time, you are trusting me (and rightfully so ;) and while you are definitely in good hands...it's nice to know ahead of time that you like things that I like...so you can trust me better. Very few and I mean VERY FEW like a prom do...(Thank goodness!!!!) but there are times when I have to do what the client wants more than what I think would look best. So...I am also posting pictures because it is incredibly fun!!!! More to come!

I like this...kind of...but I would like to do a few things to tweek it. I put it on here so I could remember :)

I like this as an alternative to the finger wave for a 20's hairstyle. Not my favorite hairstyle but it definitely sparks my creativity for similar styles.

I CANNOT believe it's been close to a year since I have posted anything. I initially started this blog to be kind of an online portfolio. The sad thing is that I do sooooo much work that doesn't make it on here. I contract my services out to other companies so I don't focus on advertising myself. I enjoy getting a call to come and help beautify a wedding party for companies such as DESIGN VISAGE or KACEE GEOFFROY and then, back to my daily life. I don't have to deal with the stress of running my own company. I do this for fun and because I love it. When it gets too stressful it seems to change things. Also, with my 3 small children, working here and there is about all I can handle! But I feel a desire lately to spark my creativity. I consistently do WEDDING HAIR AND MAKE-UP and no one wants too get to crazy with their look for that special day. So, lately I've been thinking I would like to post new pictures of the fun ideas I would like to try on friends and willing victims :) More and more lately I have friends asking me to do hair and make up for events and photo shoots and I really need to update this blog in order for them to see what I do. I'm going to do my best to start posting more and more for fun and to give me a reason to enjoy my hobby and what I do.

I agree with most of these...especially ones like the shampoo and conditioner and mascara!!!! You don't need expensive mascara. What matters most is how you put it on. And as far as shampoo and conditioner, I have always loved panetene!

So one day I get a call from Kate asking me to do her a favor (she's a friend of mine:) and put some lashes on her for a photo shoot. Um...no...I want to do ALL of your make-up! She had no complaint about that of course and what a treat for me. Also, take a look at this amazing photographer... Tonya Joy Photography. She did Kate's wedding photos and everytime I see them at her house I have to stop and take a second look. Ok, ok, I'll post one. You've got to see it! I'm not super fancy with blogging so it will just be one of the pictures below. But really, it was fun to do Kate's make up. It's funny how when you put make up on someone they always feel like they are wearing a lot. But in pictures, and really once you just get used to it...it really looks amazing. We decided to go with a bold lip color and really just accentuate her eye shape. She was going to be possibly doing a professional business photo shoot so we didn't want to get too crazy and creative with the make up, but I love the red lips look and her pretty features! I'm finding that people are beginning to get more bold and adventurous with lip color these days. I love that. Although the pale pink lips are great looking when you really play up the eyes, for wedding day or professional photographs, it's really great to have some color sometimes.

Katelyn was one of my Brides from Design Visage, and she was such a pleasure to meet and beautify! She walked in for her preview and I remember that we were all stunned with how naturally gorgeous she is. She is a very smart woman (a dentist...which explains her perfect smile) and had some amazing ideas on how to have the wedding you want for less money than most people were spending. As you can see from the pictures below, it definitely doesn't look like she missed out on anything she wanted for her wedding day. She is featured here in the 2009 Ceremony Magazine. She was married at the BEAUTIFUL Montage Resort in Laguna Beach. I LOVE that Hotel. I've worked there many times and enjoy it every time....maybe more than I should for being at work :) We designed Katelyn's hair in a way that she could have it up for the wedding, and then take the back down later for the Reception...(I trained her Bridesmaids on how to carefully do that!) I carefully placed the hair so that she would be able to have them bring the back down for her when she was ready. I did this wedding all by myself...which was exhausting but so worth it! It really was such a privilege! Katelyn was a doll...one of the sweetest people ever, and VERY classy. Definitely memorable.

Kacee was definitely one of my most memorable Brides. Not only was she gorgeous...which makes my job fun! :) But, she was one of the funnest, as well as one of the most impressive women I've ever met. Her love for life and her husband are definitely something that you can catch like a cold just by being around her. She was so excited to love and care for her future husband, and she does. It's been a pleasure to keep in contact with her even after her wedding. We worked well together to design her look and that's what it's all about. The funny thing is that she is so talented, that after her wedding, she decided to become a Hairstylist and Make-up artist herself! Check her out at Kacee Geoffroy

Ahh...the childhood memories that I think of in connection with this beautiful woman! She's my cousin but always felt more like a sister. I figured I should begin adding some pictures of my work. This was a Bride I did for Design Visage. Isn't she gorgeous? We had a preview before the wedding day, where I did her hair and make-up as a practice run. Occasionally, the Bride will change her mind. This was one of the occasions. She found a picture in a magazine of this hairstyle that she decided she liked better. The front of the hair in the picture was a bit asymmetrical and she liked that. So, we did the same here. These are just some candids I took with my camera. I remember when I showed up at the Hotel, she was just getting back from a jog. She was fit! She was an extremely busy woman and very nice. She had a busy life and busy people in it. She really counted on me to calm others down that day ;)

Design Visage-Bridal Beginnings!

It is very hard to get a job doing make-up professionally without much experience...professionally. I had a series of random jobs ranging from the Movie Theater to working at a Law School..and a few in between. In 2002, I was working for a Financial Investor and during that time was connected with Caren. She owns one of the most highly recommended Bridal Hair and Make-up companies in Orange County and L.A... Design Visage. I went in there acting like I knew all there was to know about Hair and Make-up and she liked what I did. Thankfully, she actually liked my confidence :) This is where it really began. Bridal Hair and Make-up is a whole world in and of itself. It has just as much to do with really enjoying and helping people and being professional as it does with doing Hair and Make-up. Knowing how to do Hair and Make-up is one thing. Doing it on someone else is another. Doing BRIDAL hair and Make-up is ANOTHER! So many tricks and tips go into making someone look and feel their absolute best for the most important day of their life AND keeping the Bride and the others around her calm and happy, calming her down when her mom or friends are stressing her out, reminding her bridesmaids that they should be taking pictures of all of this and taking care of her, and pampering and beautifying the Bride all at once.....is just one of the arts I have learned while working with Design Visage. The most talented and wonderful women in this industry, I believe have come from being trained and working for Design Visage. I am so grateful to Caren for her hard work and sacrifice in building such an incredible and successful company! And for giving me the opportunity to be a part of it! Eight years later, I feel like I couldn't be where I am today with my talent and experience without all that I gained and learned from the Design Visage team. I have met and worked with some of the most amazing and talented people in the world!

Make-up in the 90's

I was such a fan of Julia Roberts in the 90's..who wasn't. Pretty sure her make-up there was done by Kevyn Aucoin. Christy Turlington....loved her make-up every time :) Ok, ok time to get out of the 90's. That's enough. Just moving forward as far as my make-up fanatics :)

The Beginning...

Over the last decade, I think I've done more hair and make-up than any human being could possibly expect to have done in a lifetime. The first question most of my clients would ask me is "How did you get into doing hair and make-up?" So, here it is...

I think I was obsessed with make-up for some reason as a kid....and cats :) It was a toss up between make-up and cats. Now I'm allergic to cats, so make up wins. I used to ask my sisters to let me practice on them and play with their hair. One of them was more cooperative than the other...haha. I remember using my allowance of money that I had earned around the house and going down to Rite-Aid on a make-up shopping spree! I picked out the magazine with the best make up and bought the "wet-n-wild" make-up to do the job. I went home and practiced the heck out of it. I couldn't find the exact magazine cover so the above picture is one that I'm sure I would have loved in the 80's :) My mom let me wear make-up at a young age. I never over did it so, we didn't have to worry about the nasty blue eyeshadow and splochy cheeks. She knew I was good with it. So, I was the only 6th grader with my purse full of make-up at school. During recess, all the girls became my best friends as I decked them out in the bathroom with my bag-o-tricks. Not so sure how their parents felt about that, if they ever found out...but, I never got in trouble, which is all that counts, right? That's the VERY beginning...I think. In High School, I did so much hair and make-up for prom, they had a special 'thank you' to me in the prom booklet. No joke. Should I post prom pictures? Hmmmm...we'll see. :)
